For all its HD animation, celebrity guest voices, and new ways to cause Homer pain, Zombie Simpsons in the 21st season is incredibly bland.  The show became deeply unimaginative years ago and by this point all they really do is just fill in the time the same ways over and over again.  Was it repetitive?  Oh sure.  Did Homer cry?  You bet.  Pointless celebrity guest?  Of course.  Wildly unbelievable antics even within a single scene?  Plenty.  Tonight Zombie Simpsons went through the motions with mixed martial arts and there’s nothing memorable about the result.  It’s like those paintings of sail boats or landscapes you see in mid-range hotel rooms, it’s there, but it’s not very engaging and there’s no reason to ever give it a second thought.

I’m splitting the difference between the ratings for the last two weeks and setting the over/under at 8.7 million mildly distracted people.  As always, here’s hoping the under has it.

Update: The numbers are in and they’re even worse than I could’ve hoped.  The under has it by more than a million as last night’s Zombie Simpsons was watched by a mere 7.55 million people.

Martial arts? Was the episode title “Tae Kwan D’oh” by any chance? I’d love it if Zombie Simpsons really did end up using a shitty title I previously came up with as an example.

Hmmm, “The Great Wife Hope.” I should have looked more closely at the tag before replying the first time…
