Blood-splattered images are fun to make, but I digress. We’re two Sundays away from the next episode of Zombie Simpsons, “The Devil Wears Nada,” and fresh off Marge’s appearance pointless cross-promotion in Playboy, this episode will feature her taking her clothes off left and right. Cartoon nudity-lovin’ weirdos, get your DVRs ready; judging by the promo image, Marge gets white stuff all over her face and Ned puts questionable things in his mouth and possibly sucks on them. Simpsons Channel offers a description:
In an effort to raise money for charity, Marge and the “Philanthro-Chicks” decide to pose for a calendar. At the photo studio, Marge loosens up with wine and before long, Marge and her pin-up poses are the talk of Springfield.
Let’s revisit history for a moment. By my count, Marge has been in two previous crappy womyn’s groups, The Investorettes and The Cheery Red Tomatoes, in two unremarkable Marge-centric episodes, “The Twisted World of Marge Simpson” and “The Last of the Red Hat Mamas,” respectively. There’s an old adage that says two’s a coincidence and three’s a trend. At this rate, the easy money’s on “The Devil Wears Nada” being a complete shitshow. There’s precedent, consarnit!

It would be interesting if that picture means something and Marge would actually cop off with Ned. If only because it’d be something different to the other 384739764732647326549873265 “Marge and Homer’s relationship troubles – will they split? No, of course they fucking won’t, but we can and will drag the non-tension out for twenty minutes.” But from descriptions of future episodes, Marge isn’t going to leave Homer any time soon.
As for the description, I am (in my wet liberal way) concerned about the idea of a person being given alcohol to strip, and that being played for comedy. But I assume I’m in the minority there, most of the Simpsons fandom seems unconcerned about these things.

I don’t think the current staff is aware enough to even realize that they could make a joke about something like that. Ye olde Simpsons was always good at putting horrifying concepts into cheery words and actions (e.g. “I’m gonna to lose my job just ’cause I’m dangerously unqualified!” and “But because these are children’s toys the fire will spread quickly . . .”); these days they’re too clueless to know when they’re doing something that might offend people so my guess is that they’ll just use it as a plot prop and move right along.
The Simpsons does have a history of going over certain uncomfortable ideas, but such things often work better when one can see the context and tone – which you often can’t describe so well over the net (especially if you’re as inarticulate as me). But I find myself sceptical about the way this will be done just because it is so rarely (in any TV show) presented as problematic to lower a woman’s inhibitions artificially to get her to do something of a sexual nature. “Give booze, receive comedy” is a fairly well-worn carpet and rarely done in any way besides “drunk are funny lol”.
As I say, I’m a humourless liberal.
