Thanks to SNPP, we have a short preview of tonight’s Zombie Simpsons. There’s an additional “WARNING: FLASHBACK ALERT,” which in Zombie Simpsons parlance means revisionist nonsense and gaping plot holes inserted to advance a mediocre story. Don’t let the brevity throw you for a loop – it’s almost certainly going to be miserable:

While Homer, Apu, and Reverend Lovejoy are vacationing together with their children, they receive a letter from Moe… who says he’s planning on running away with one of their wives.

Who wants to bet Moe will attempt suicide in a desperate cry for attention? Remember when Moe was just bitter and angry, instead of whiny and needy? Yeah, those were the days.

Here’s my prediction (copied from the speculation thread on No Homers): Moe won’t run off with any of the wives and there’ll be a big, happy reunion at the end after the guys realise how important their wives are (which will possibly be written in a sappy way).

Oh, and the Lovejoys will be poorly written. Or the writers will find a way of cutting his role down to about 10 minutes. They’ll find a way, I’m sure.

This episode is going to be an interesting one for me, because, well, it’s the biggest role Lovejoy has ever had since “disaster”. In fact, I’d say it’s bigger than “disaster”. This’ll be the episode where I figure out if these people still give a shit about my favourite characters. If they can actually keep them in-character and not throw in some gags like “Harold Schwarzebaum”, I might still give a damn about this show. The only reason I paid attention to this dull, tedious season is in case the writers remember they existed. If it’s not even worth waiting for that… well, fuck this show. I’m done with it.

Oh, and as for Moe’s suicide attempt… well, he hasn’t done one of those in a while. I’m more worried about CBG randomly showing up in a place he wouldn’t be caught dead in and saying something geeky.

And once again we have an episode title that riffs on something they’ve already riffed on, namely the movie “Mo’ Better Blues.” There was an episode entitled “Moe Baby Blues” back in season 14, and I’m willing to bet that we’ll get an episode entitled “D’Oh Better Blues” in season 28.

Don’t forget Moe’s back-breaking turn “Mo’ Better Booze” in “A Star Is Burns”. What once was a throwaway joke is now an episode title two times over.

Well, the long and the short of it is, they’ve done parody titles of “Mo’ Better Blues” three times now, which equals the number of episodes they’ve titled as references to the Mona Lisa (“Moaning Lisa,” “Moe’n’a Lisa” and “Mona Leaves-A”). To say nothing of other episodes bearing titles which are damn near identical to those of previous episodes (“Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”/”Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?”, “Take My Wife, Sleaze”/”Brake My Wife, Please”, “Flaming Moe’s”/”Flaming Moe” etc) and the God-knows-how-many episode titles which contain the word “D’Oh”…

How can this show even pretend to come up with new ideas when they can’t even bother to come up with original episode titles?

True, even the French episode titles are more original.
