It’s a new year, but Zombie Simpsons is up to its same old stale tricks:
Homer lands his own political talk show after a video featuring his impassioned rant on poor treatment at the airport goes viral. As his talk show quickly gains popularity nationwide, Homer becomes the spokesperson for the Gravy Movement and the voice of America’s newest political party. But when ill-informed Homer is asked to select the next Republican nominee for President and officially endorses right-wing rock star Ted Nugent (guest voicing as himself), Marge and Lisa worry that Homer’s opinion and influence might be more powerful than he realizes.
There’s familiar combination of elements: Homer getting a new job, a celebrity guest voicing as himself, and a story that doesn’t make any sense. At least it sounds like they’re accurately portraying the Nuge’s ideological commitment to getting people to pay attention to him. Welcome to 2012, everyone.

Yet another episode where Homer discovers a new talent, is somehow good at it & becomes an overnight celebrity? Snore.
(Also I can’t believe it took them nearly 3 years to have an episode on the Tea Party, usually their transparently-unfunny parody turnaround time is 1-2 years.)
“This episode really meandered with a plot that was done better by South Park!” Screw you, rational voice in my head, it was Ted Nugent. Like I said before, while he’s awesome, ANYONE ELSE would’ve been a more clever choice.
If this episode is memorable for anything, it’s introducing the term “Bicentennial Lemon Party.”
Oh, and this whole “Characters appearing & disappearing” issue can be chalked up to one hell of a writer/animator disparity. I can forgive Sideshow Mel in the Kwik-E-Mart (he shows up to say something funny in his voice, which is absolutely nothing new), but Rainer Wolfcastle was there for some reason, too. But Lisa had insulted Ted Nugent…while he was standing across from her.
That null sign over the pictures of Michelle Bachmann and Herman Cain’s faces is probably the most timely thing the show has done in a while. That doesn’t make it funny, but it’s a step up.
This wasn’t the worst episode of the season as there were a few bits I laughed at (like the “Bicentennial Lemon Party” line pointed out earlier), but I’ve seen political satire done MUCH better. In fact, I think a Compare and Contrast to either Sideshow Bob Roberts or Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish is in order.
At least jean’s stealing ideas from his own era now. Homer’s public display goes viral? Father son and holy guest star. Homer gets his own talk show? Today I am a klown. Homer suggests an unconventional candidate? As mentioned, that shitfest with ralph. How does al not remember he did these?

Well that episode was truly shit. I usually try to be a bit moderate when talking about the current show but this week’s show was awful, ignoring basic foundations of writing (plot, characters) for generally poor jokes and satire.
That fake dream was the most insulting to the audience thing they’ve done since the one where half the episode is them looking into sauce.
But he was clearly sleeping and somehow it was a fake dream…
