I love how that line is funny by itself, but also sets up the pay-off later when it’s revealed that Reverend Lovejoy was the person Flanders was chasing. Great writing.
Wow, I never thought of it that way. I always assumed that meant Ned had called Lovejoy (probably repeatedly) in a panic over having accidentally kept the quarter and wondering if he just violated the Eighth Commandment. Either way, Lovejoy’s delivery on “Oh, if this is about that stupid quarter again” gets me every time.
You could be right. It works on so many levels…
