Well, “Simpsorama” has been hinted at for over a year, and now it’s finally happening. Raise your hands, who wanted this? You? Hang your head in shame.

Pretty low expectations here but as a Futurama fan I’m more or less obligated to wee what is likely the last time the Futurama universe is animated (sans David X. Cohen’s involvement)
I’d like it if Matt Groening got personally involved in exec producing this one, but after being completely absent from either series in over a decade (thus allowing ZS to take on its undead form) I expect nothing from him now.
Would it have killed them to at least draw Leela on-model if they’re not going to give her an expression?

I’ve seen a few episodes of Futurama, and the main character does mention The Simpsons sometimes, but as if it existed as the TV show, not as if they were real. How would this work?
Fry only mentioned “The Simpsons” on the episode “A Big Piece of Garbage” where he finds a pile of Bart Simpson dolls (early 1990s, back when Bart wore a blue shirt on merchandise) and Bender eats the shorts off one. There was also Bender mentioning that a porno version of “The Simpsons” exists called “The Pimpsons” (and “Futurama”‘s porno name is “Assarama”).
I haven’t seen many episodes of Futurama, but the point is that in the Futurama universe, The Simpsons is a TV show, not an actual family from the past. So travelling back in time, where apparently everything is yellow, even though the main character was from that time and wasn’t yellow, and the family is real, wouldn’t make any sense.
Considering that the existence of multiple universes is canon within Futurama, I don’t know why they couldn’t just have the story be about them going into another universe.
“Canon”? In Futurama? You do realize you’re talking about a show where all that happens are a bunch of idiots and a haywire robot fighting some giant shit worm only to find out that it has a face of some dude, and having “01010101” written on someone’s buttock is completely customary, do you?

Woah there ,Stan! I’ll sidestep the “Which shows are good and which aren’t” thread but Futurama is a science-fiction show with it’s own accepted canon and chronology. Sarah’s right, explaining the crossover as an alternate universe would make more sense than explaining that people were yellow in the past.

I know it’s going to be beyond awful, the very idea of a Simpsons/Futurama crossover is craptacular hackery at it’s most blatant.

Yes, Futurama was very nerd oriented and as a result had more of a “canon” chronology than The Simpsons did. Sure, there were a few slip-ups with some some throwaway lines
As I said earlier it was more David X Cohen’s and (early on) Matt Groening’s contributions that gave the show some sort of chronology and “lore”. Even the questionable late Comedy Central episodes more or less kept it intact, unlike ZS constantly retconning whatever existing chronology and consistency the series had in its classic era all for the sake of keeping the show afloat. Futurama never resorted to that sort of self-cannibalism.

No one can because it doesn’t explain how every caucasian on earth has yellow skin (and asian to some degree). Also I don’t think that was ever established in the show, just weak fan speculation.
That fan theory isn’t even trying! Just think how many times the Simpsons have visited other towns/countries, or flashed back to before nuclear power plants even existed. It doesn’t hold up to the smallest amount of scrutiny, even if you’re prepared to buy the idea of a nuclear meltdown having no ill effects other than changing people’s skin colour.
I love Futurama- it’s one of my all-time favourite shows. That said, I’m not watching tonight. I love Futurama too much to see ZS mess with them.

What else can ZS destroy? Matt Groening’s Life In Hell was pretty decent for a comic strip that was printed in weekly alt-papers. Let’s have the Simpsons meet Akbar and Jeff!!!
People seem to love Archer and it airs on FX so let’s have Homer get a job at ISIS (gotta believe the name is going to change this season).

Not only did Fry find a Bart Simpson doll on the garbage ball episode, Matt Groening appeared as himself in a Simpsons episode set at a comic book convention, where he was referred to as “the creator of Futurama”. So Futurama is a TV show in The Simpsons universe, too.
There was also already a Simpsons / Futurama crossover in comic book form. IIRC, in that comic The Simpsons were among many other fictional characters that were somehow brought to life.

I’ve never seen Archer, but I heard a story on NPR that stated that they indeed were going to retire ISIS from the show, but not actually mention the terrorist group in the show. There is also a bunch of unsold ISIS merchandise that they will probably end up throwing away.

Maybe the first one, but the second one I found it really really bad, almost ” Zombie Futurama”.
The second one wasn’t that bad (“Meanwhile,” not “Overclockwise”), and unlike The Simpsons, Futurama actually ended after 10 seasons (seven if you go by production code and discount the movies).
ugh, count me as someone who also didn’t like the final run of Futurama – it was all about Fry and Leela and how every single episode Fry needed to prove to Leela how much he loved her, and if she didn’t love him unconditionally, he would cry.
I personally count it as 6 seasons, because production seasons 1-5 were released on DVD as Seasons 1-4.

Not likely. The sad part is that the Giants/Seahawks game will probably provide a decent ratings boost. I just hope that ZS never hits tonight’s numbers again. (Unless they are below 5 million, in which case, keep putting dirt on this show.)
As a Futurama fan, I’m almost tempted to watch this, as it will probably be the last time we’ll see the Futurama characters on screen. Note the use of the word “almost”.

Maybe, but I figured that Futurama fans would want to see these characters one last time. It really says a lot about the low quality of ZS that even a popular, still-loved show like Futurama can’t cancel out the crappiness. Even if there is debate on whether the post-cancellation seasons were as good as pre-cancellation, most people will admit that there were still a lot of great episodes, some of which could be called classic. You can’t really say this for ZS.
I love the idea of a show having seasons “post cancellation”. Life-after-death in television. I know it got picked up elsewhere etc, just funny is all.

Well, I’m sorry if you hate “Futurama,” but you can’t stop others from liking it, so go get liver failure, you pseudo-academic, pseudo-religious, pseudo-ethical piece of nerd shit.
So I watches the fuckover. It’s awful. Really awful, like Bart getting the future compromised because of a stupidity awful. I got my Zoidberg cameo at least.
It was bad. Desperate fanservice, seriously weak plot, a goddamned time machine. Character interaction was terrible….I mean wow. If considered a Futurama episode, this has to rank at the bottom or darn well near it.
I personally compared it to Roswell That Ends Well in which they also went back in time yet established the act as something near impossible to replicate. Now we have Bender housing a portal into the future and having laser vision all of a sudden. And news broadcasts from the future can be broadcast through Bender? RTEW also had more imagination as to how people in the past would react to such beings as Bender and Zoidberg (and conversely the pilot).
The sci-fi element was seriously weak in this one. Again, reminiscent of the worst Futurama episodes where they don’t even try to make sense. I mean, wouldn’t the radioactive ooze affect more than a single time capsule considering the entire town square was swimming in it? Wouldn’t Milhouse’s and Nelson’s DNA also be in that capsule? Also some really forced sci-fi references (Aliens, Gremlins (?), Terminator, etc).
The Simpsons cast can’t even pretend to care acting like such zombie bores. Not even Lisa or Frink get a rise out of what should be an earth shattering revelation. As such, I’m just bored watching them go through the crossover motions.
I’m gonna say it…the Family Guy crossover was better than this. That was at least watchable. The only thing this has going for it is that it’s shorter.
When you’re like me, who hated Futurama since its conception, it hits less hard. The FG crossover sucked, but it had 1 hour to make its plot stand and make sense. This aberration reminded me of everything I ever hated about both shows. Seriously, Matt Groening, if THIS is what you produce, then… fuck you. I liked The Simpsons up to season 10 and thank you for that. But that alone doesn’t buy you my lifetime long admiration, I’m sorry.
Many people on the IGN article of this crossover have said they stopped watching The Simpsons in the 90’s or by 2003 I wanted to add here, Behind The Laughter closed the show for me and others, best season was 8 and those very same people have said that they either like Futurama, FG or American Dad btw.
AD was good until they rad out of ideas too around 2010. Everything past Season 6 is… just is.

The problem with Futurama, in my opinion was that it became less of a “what’s life like in the year 3000” and became more of a “let’s make up whatever new technology we want to push our story through”

For what it’s worth, the Simpsons/Futurama crossover COMIC is pretty good, and worth the money.
If you get the hardcover collector edition, there’s some pretty good artwork at the end!
It’s sad that the comic version of the Simpsons/Futurama crossover (or any Simpsons comic for that matter) is slightly more enjoyable than the actual show. But, hey, that’s the world we live in now.
