Man, I don’t know what’s more disconcerting here, the accidental lack of Bart’s name in the quote, or the accidental lack of eyelashes on Lisa :o
It’s been a while since I’ve seen the episode, but how would anyone know that Bart and Lisa were kids just from their names?
I think they mentioned it in their letter.
If you see the deleted scene reel on the season four DVD set, the original line was Lisa saying, “I know what that word is, but what does ‘shinola’ mean?” after Roger Meyers dictates his rejection letter. I guess the censors objected because the letter had the line, “You don’t know shit from shinola” and even if “shit” is implied, it’s still taboo on network TV (at the time, anyway).
And I think the most disconcerting thing here is Bart casually mentioning Grampa being the victim of identity theft and fraud. But I think the casual attitude towards distressing things is what The Simpsons excelled at back in the day…1993.
