Grampa’s days in the Air Force are rehashed, while Bart picks up the smoking habit in an effort to impress Milhouse’s Dutch cousin, Annika.
Do you think airing what will probably be an anti-smoking PSA counts as community service for Murdoch? Carice van Houten (The Red Woman for all you Game of Thrones fans) is voicing the role of Annika tonight, so I guess that is about as convenient as it gets. Well I guess I don’t know how convenient it is for anyone, but it’s definitely the reason the episode was written. I can see it now…. “Hey an actress from that extremely popular HBO show’s agent called and said she wants in, and guess what her name is!!! This thing will write itself!”

Another wacky adventure in Abe’s absurdly crowded past. And Bart has smoked occasionally before. It’s not that he starts smoking now to impress a girl.
Since they run out of ideas new episodes are made by recycling old plot points/storylines but every time it is worse than the previous. Either that or they just screw up character continuity ruining the characters and making them less entertaining. These writers are a disgrace for the show.
At the very least, this is at least attempting to tie in with “The Flying Hellfish”. Some continuity points there.
But then we get another Bart romance…(cue millions of faint groans). The smoking bit shows some signs that they are at least trying t1o bring back Bart’s old legitimate “bad boy” image–a character trait he has sorely lacked through much of the ZS era. However I suspect it will but be a lead-in for a moral PSA spending most of the time whining or needy.
And yes, Bart has smoked in the past (and Lisa for that matter).
I was just thinking “Didn’t they do an episode about Lisa taking up smoking to impress someone, like, seven years ago?” They no longer see to have a statute of limitations on how long they need to wait before they can rip themselves off.
There’s also a ZS episode where Lisa takes up smoking in ballet.
That’s the one mentioned above, and the only one where Lisa smoking affects the plot (no?)
Is that episode really seven years old?
I could easily bet it is.
I like how they use the word “rehashed.”
How.can Groening and Simon sleep at night? These episodes are terrible… I predict an all time low of 2.93 million viewers and if Classic Simpson’s ever comes back on with new episodes written in the classic fashion then Fox could probably charge money and put it on Netflix and PPV.
Well, Groening hasn’t been involved with the show since Futurama, and Sam Simon left after season three and just died recently. Al Jean is the guy you’re looking for.
He sleeps fine. I threatened him in PM couple of times, the dipshit just blocked me.
Which one: Groening or Simon? Because you threatening a dead man is just in bad taste.
Jean.
I don’t threaten dead people, you must have me confused with someone else.
Fuck, I get Al and Simon confused sometimes, you’re right!
Give it a rest, Rob. Groening hasn’t been involved in the series in over a decade. It just has his name on it as “creator. Futurama was the last show he had notable involvement in.
At least Simon can rest peacefully for all eternity (there is an after life btw, this life, ever walk around a cemetery?) and Groening should have written at least one season and been more involved then he was.
Bart smoking isn’t “badass attitude”, it’s just stupidity. Everyone knows 10-year-olds don’t smoke nowadays.
So European and how the fuck do you guys PM people and put profile pics on DHS? Meh.
What?
Eh, I’m thinking of Blogger, mainly.
Hey kid, you look good with that cigarette. Kinda sophisticated.
Son, I’ll never doubt you again.
I’m going to stand here and watch you smoke every one of those cigarettes.
Nah, the funniest line was when the family was trying to save money and Bart said: “I could take up smoking and then quit, and we will have more money”.
No, it was “And I’ll take up smoking, and give that up,” followed by Homer giving him a dollar all fatherly-like until he realized that Bart didn’t do anything.
With Lisa’s help. Fuck Lisa.
“MOOOOOM! BART’S SMOKING!”
All right! Out, out, out! Go, go, go! – But Milhouse-What are you- – Okay, okay, okay.
I won’t bug Milhouse.
Hey, watched this and actually didn’t think it was too bad at least by rock-bottom ZS standards set by the last several weeks. Sure, it was still pretty ZS and the plot was downright retarded but there were actually some humor in this one (Hibbert sees rice wafers in a pinata and says “I declare this party dead”). This one was very cartoony throughout and actually better off for it.
Big minus though was that it needlessly messes with Mona Simpson’s backstory and that they threw in not one but two incest/inbreeding jokes.
Also, why did Bart give up smoking at the end? Didn’t he think it was cool to have a hold in his throat earlier? And how did he just quit cold turkey after smoking for several weeks straight? Seemed like a forced PSA moment.
I quit cold turkey after smoking for two years from 2012 to 2014.
I never smoked in my life. Safe for a couple of times I tried, and it felt awful. Never touched any weed either. Only booze, that, any day.
