Yeah I don’t really like these kind of jokes in The Simpsons, I always found them too easy, uncreative and cheap (well, “cheap” isn’t the right word but you get the idea).
Besides the Bojack Xmas special poked fun of that very trope using the fictional show-within-a-show itself.
