The superbowl airs on Sunday Morning in Springfield?
The writers mostly grew up or lived on the West Coast. Super Bowls used to have kick off in the early afternoon, back in the 70s. So a lot of the writers for this episode probably grew up with super bowls that overlapped at least sometimes with church.
Plus you know – pre game parties and all that
I just realized how funny it is that the parishioner exclaims “Oh my God!”
Oh yeah me too :P this episode first aired 20 years ago and still we just notice stuff like this :D
The one thing that always bothered me about this: Ned Flanders isn’t there.
Maybe the church has more than one service on Sunday, and Flanders was at a different one. Although I imagine Flanders would be the kind of person who be at EVERY service on Sunday.
Or perhaps its because the episode was made before Ned’s character was turned ULTRA-CHRISTIAN. There’s kind of a running joke in his earlier appearances about how he’s a pretty relaxed, hip guy.
Ah yes the sneakers and the ski suit (nothin’ at all)
