Wanda Sykes and George Takei guest voice as a couple experiencing marital differences. After watching A Streetcar Named Desire Milhouse takes on a Marlon Brando-inspired bad-boy persona to attract Lisa. Milhouse seeks then advice from the school counselor. Homer tries to save his marriage by becoming a better man and fulfilling old promises when Marge becomes fed up with his behavior and he seeks advice from his local sushi chef.

Seems like a lot is going on tonight.  All this and a Breaking Bad couch gag to boot. Which, even as someone who watches Breaking Bad, I am a little lost on.  Its not a parody, its sort of just inspired by Breaking Bad, so my feeble brain is confused. Whatever, I can’t wait for the rest of season 5 this summer.

Meanwhile, the promotional still is a perfect example of the writers trying to write the children of Springfield much older than they actually are.

The Simpsons has never done a Streetcar Named Desire themed episode before! (Except for that one time.)

I’ve watched Breaking Bad through (I think) season 3 (through DVDs from the local library). I thought I didn’t get the couch gag because it was referencing something from later in the series, but apparently not. They used to be able to make funny references where you didn’t actually need to be familiar with the source in order to find it funny.

The title alone pretty much shows how far Simpsons Brand Animated Prime-Time Television Family Entertainment Product has fallen. The couch gag just cements that with a cynical attempt to hang onto someone else’s coattails in a desperate stab at relevance.

…She makes crystal-blue cupcakes and makes lots of money doing it, and the making-of-the-cupcakes scene and the cash-counting-out scene and the “Crystal Blue Pursuasion” soundtrack is almost identical to the second-to-final-scene in the final episode of season 5a. It’s pretty horrible and I’m not sure why Homer has Walt’s hat on and is pissed about Marge selling the cakes but I guess her making a bunch of money from the bluecrystal-cupcakes is supposed to inspire Walt/Jesse which is why they smile while watching it (a scene stolen from S5aE04, I believe, though obviously what Jesse and Walt were watching was something completely different in the actual episode). I thought it was a horrible gag, Breaking Bad is my 2nd favorite live-action show ever — behind Six Feet Under (my favorite animated show ever is Dr. Katz if anyone’s wondering) — and I thought last season on the Simpsons when Wiggum busts the meth lab and goes, “Come out with your hands up, BREAKING BADDIES!” was pretty lame too but better than this which just comes off as ‘LOOK AT US, WE’RE STILL RELEVANRT, WE REFERENCE SHOWS EVERYONE LIKES!’

THIS fan mash-up is much cooler:

I think it is a horrible message to boys and men that women actually LIKE being treated like dirt. I am a woman so I can tell you for sure…we don’t like jerks! I also think it is a terrible message for girls and women that the more a guy treats you like garbage the more he likes you.

I think the entire point of this episode was just so they could mention that Fifty Shades of Grey crap. Yet another of their lame attempts to stay reveleant…in an episode that had a Breaking Bad couch gag. Will they have a Walking Dead one next season?

Funny that you make a point about the ZS not making any. It wasn’t the first time they try to copycat the original episodes with wrong conclusions and sarcastic double entendres, except these new ones have none of the above. Instead, they come out overly obnoxious and feel nothing like even a slight contrivance to make a joke. When you a) have to literally explain your point to the viewers and b) constantly pinpoint the fact that you’re making jokes, instead of, well, actually making some, you know that you’re a crappy shit of a turd of a show.

I think one of the problems with Zombie Simpsons, aside from the ham-fisted shoehorned messages, sappy & insipid overwrought hyper-drama, irrelevant & senseless plot devices (or altogether unfitting, distracting, senseless scenes), uncharacteristic cartoonish slapstick, lack of actual jokes, drawn-out gags (worse than Family Guy at this point) where they have to explain it and reduce its humorous potential, sloppy storytelling and pop-culture worship rather than satire, is that it doesn’t HUMBLE the viewer, keeping them grounded while being thoroughly entertained. This may be its most embarrassing & cringe-inducing aspect overall. Thoughts, anyone?
