When inventor Elon Musk  arrives in Springfield and befriends Homer, the two revolutionize the nuclear plant. But the ambitious Musk soon has Mr. Burns seething and Burns tries to have him removed, forcing Homer to make a tough decision.

While I find the real life Elon Musk to be a relatively interesting person, I have absolutely zero desire to see him interact with zombie Homer.  At least they didn’t try to rope him and SpaceX into the insane Kang and Kodos episode from a few weeks back.

        Not only Marge.
Bart should look smaller than Lisa in the pic, he’s taller than Lisa but he’s sitting closer to Homer.
        Or their chairs.
Marge seems to be the only one who uses a knife.
And all black lines has the same width. Why?

Apparently Elon Musk doesn’t seat on a chair when he has dinner, and the Simpsons don’t use a knife to cut the meat. Who cares anyway, I’m not gonna whatch this episode.

He was probably hoping to sit at the dining room table with one of those large inflated balls that some super companies use in lieu of office chairs, but was disappointed to learn that the Simpsons had nothing like that in their house and chose to eat his meal while standing.

      1. torbiecat Avatar
        torbiecat

And if I happened to be animated in this show for some crazy reason, I’d want to sit at the Simpsons’ dining room table in a chair similar to the one Mr. Burns had in that boardroom at Springfield University in “Homer Goes to College.”

It’s weird how normalized the idea of Homer becoming friends with a celebrity is. Homer’s supposed to be an ordinary schmuck, but he befriends dozens upon dozens of famous people like it’s nothing.

On that point, wouldn’t it make more sense for Mr. Burns or Smithers to be the one who recruits Musk to the plant, and have that be the way he meets Homer, rather than the other way around? Also, why does Homer have a tough decision to make? The gist is: Burns wants Musk gone – so surely he just fires him and/or feeds him to alligators. Why would Homer be an intermediary in this? And even he is an intermediary, how does that give him the power to defy Mr. Burns?

All will be revealed tonight…. if I can muster up the energy to care.

You’re thinking too rationally for the sake of Zombie Simpson plots.

So Homer is going to befriend a Tony Stark showoff? And they’re making an episode out of it.
I think this very site has become ‘Zombie DHS’ only to still write posts about this shitwreck of a once great show. Those money-making assholes should be tortured CIA style for still keeping it up. I’ve said this some time ago, I’m still standing my this. Someone should kill Al Jean, seriously. That does it, c’mon, cancel this shit.

What has this blog done wrong? It’s a nice cozy blog with little restraint rules, but 5 years ago I thought the point was to manifest until this piece of crap is off the goddamn air. Now I see that Charlie and co. prefer criticizing ZS, but never take it any further. Why’s beyond me…

        1. torbiecat Avatar
          torbiecat

I’m genuinely curious (and not meaning the following as criticism), but what else would you like to see Charlie and company do? Initiating petitions and letter campaigns to Fox? More actively reach out to Simpsons-related communities on the web by having active discussions with their members? Expand their format to YouTube and podcasts? Set-up booths at conventions? Yeah, I clearly can think of other ways of tackling the issue, but how feasible would a lot of this be?

          1. Stan Avatar
            Stan

For starters, one could start a viral “Je Suis Charlie”-esque movement to have people boycott watching new episodes. Like, just not turning their TVs on, considering that most of the audience are 20-25 year old trench, going viral on them might actually work. When FOX will see that ratings numbers are dropping specifically during ZS, say, going below 1 million viewers, they would know what to do. Of course, at this point, I’d also suggest not buying their merch, apps, and everything related to the Simpsons. Have Jean choke on his fucking ego.
Why wouldn’t I do it instead of suggesting? Well, I’m lazy, have Aspies, and I’m an individualist. All this besides being routinely busy with my real life, that is.

Is it weird that I’m not really familiar with Elon Musk? I sort of know what he is famous for, but I know nothing about his appearance or signature mannerisms, which would presumably make watching a cartoon about him more amusing.

Not sure if it’s been brought up before, but Global TV (the network that airs The Simpsons in Canada) appears to have moved the show from 8 pm to 10 pm. Could be a result of not enough viewers to keep it in the traditional time.

I’m not too familiar with him, either, and only know of some of his developments as well.

And, damn, I wish other countries would follow Canada’s lead in pushing this show to a later timeslot. C’mon and unite networks of the world!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, there are some countries that only air The Simpsons up to around season six, because that’s all their licensed to air and other countries don’t even air The Simpsons at all because it’s considered “too subversive” for that country’s moral code.

Elon Musk i think owned PayPal or something similar before selling it off and becoming a gagillionnaire.
Then his company developed the Tesla Roadster, an amazing looking sports car that needs no gas (all battery).
Now his company is working on a space project – being able to reuse the same booster rocket multiple times

And he’s only 40-ish. He’s done quite a lot in his time.
don’t know if he’s a nice guy or not, but he is quite talented!

Two things that really stood out in this episode: Yet another episode where a celebrity is getting his/her ass kissed by Springfield. And yet another episode in the seemingly booming trend in which Futurama writers are continually transforming Springfield into New New York. Really, all of the inventions are just rehashed Futurama gags (transportation tubes, every household item being a sentient robot)

Also, weren’t self-driving cars already invented in “Maximum Homerdrive”?

The layoff/”depression” plot really went nowhere. Just an excuse to get Musk to leave town, yet we really don’t see Springfield at large react at all after that pointless old-timey montage–not even any indication that Springfield Nuclear will even be hiring again. Isn’t Burns still in serious debt over the futuristic make-over of the town?

Lastly, this one is a complete ripoff of the “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” except without a single shred of irony, repeatability or wit. Homer’s retarded thoughts are apparently all brilliant, and that single joke stretches most of the episode.

    1. torbiecat Avatar
      torbiecat

I was going to make some sort of quip about how Elon Musk had some engineers develop those bodies Mr. Burns and Smithers had at the end of “Rosebud,” but then I realized something: why would Springfield even need Elon Musk develop and install futuristic stuff around town when freaking Professor Frink could probably do that. But, yeah, Zombie Simpsons loves to involve celebrities for the sake of shilling themselves.

The problem is Al Jean just doesn’t give a shit. He’s figuratively constipated. Which means that he won’t consume any criticism, i.e. REAL criticism on the viewers’ behalf. With a monotone face he keeps making money, and probably laughs off our comments (though I doubt he reads them). As a result, the show is only watched by those for whom it has become a tradition to receive their portion of “laughs” on a Sunday evening before going to bed. Alongside what have you as other shows.
A couple of years ago I quit Facebook because I was sick of their policies. That’s right, I did it. And I was also sick of those whiners who kept making promises, yet never quit. They’re zombies, still watching shows like ZS. Too lazy to make a move. And today they sicken me even more.
Nothing good remained of The Simpsons. Nothing. It’s been destroyed. And I’m glad people still remember that show because of ZS, that’s one move the douchebag studios could’ve been making money off today (re-runs anyone?), but probably are just still not there mentally. Thanks one famous website they will never get my cash for the DVDs.

I think Al Jean, Matt Groening, and most of the voice actors are numb, and are merely going through the motions (and maybe because of something shitty Fox is imposing that the public doesn’t know about). (I guess the writers are naive, hacky, and/or just trying to scape a couple of pennies. And who the hell knows what Jim Brooks’ involvement is anymore except for Richard Sakai and company.) They seem much like zombies themselves. If anything, Harry Shearer probably IS the one who could cause some ripples. For the sake of sticking it to Fox, his own sanity, and maybe the opportunity to get some stuff off his chest, I really wish he would be a tad more principled and quit while he’s ahead instead of having the terrors of old age or death be the reason why he no longer voice acts for this abomination. Sure, Fox probably would just find ways to replace him and some ZS fans would continue to sneer at him, but it would shake up some of the numb middling fans and aggravate others, maybe to the point of wrecking things.

      1. Stan Avatar
        Stan

I think you’re a little bit off the track. First, Jean and company aren’t numb, Groening might be, but the current show directors are greedy selfish bastards who show very little interest for the fate of the show. They are literally exploiting The Simpsons as we speak in order to milk its viewers out of money, if not directly through ratings, then at least through all the merch they’re still producing (via China and whatnot).
Second, Shearer is just as big a sellout as the rest of the current voicing team. Which is very sad considering Spinal Tap and other of his 1980s achievements. I can understand old age, but they all keep asking for bigger and bigger paychecks all while obviously starting to fake their performances (which is especially true for Kavner). Is the retirement pension too small for actors with such productive careers? Don’t think so.
And finally, I doubt they could ever find a replacement for Flanders and Burns. Cutting out Krabappel completely was a rash idea (considering her voice was easy to mimic, and, of course, all the “paying due respect with removing the character for the show” bullshit), but cutting out these two would actually kill ZS. They will be officially obligated to think of plots not involving Homer’s famous neighbor, knowing that replacing him completely with another character would not generate as much ‘profit’ as with Flanders. If Shearer dies, or even has the nerve the finally retire one day, it’s bye-bye- for the show. And good riddance.
