The Family Guy already did it!
I like the short scene after this a little more, when Marge puts the oranges back into the kids’ lunches:
Marge: “Back into the lunches you go.” *puts back oranges into lunches*
Lisa: “Eww, Mom!”
Marge: “Oh grow up.”
This was where the show jumped the shark for me. The Simpsons shouldn’t do ball jokes, and that’s all there is to it.
Oh man, really? Compared what’s to come later in the season this is nearly gold.
(And besides, the cheapening of jokes arguably started a season earlier.)
My chronology may be off, and I do remember watching Kill the Alligator and realising The Simpson’s wasn’t very good any more, but Bart using the word “testicles” was definitely a watershed for me.
“Back in the lunches you go!” was pretty funny, granted!
