Surprised you didn’t do a friggin’ birthday post for Kirk Douglas yesterday. He’s now reached the grand century mark (100)! Considering all the sad celeb deaths that have happened this year, that’s pretty impressive.
(Another Simpsons guest this year that’s also reached the next decade mark: Tony Bennett at 90.)
Slipped through the cracks. Besides, I don’t see how I could top the one I did for his 95th birthday: https://deadhomersociety.com/2011/12/09/quote-of-the-day-997/
Well, it’s never too late for a belated offering. But, then again, you probably shouldn’t listen to me, seeing how I’ve just made a belated comment. Hopefully you’ll be able to do one for next time!
That’s a really good post, and I can’t really think of anything else to add to it. However, not sure if you’re a Tales From The Crypt fan, but either way I’d recommend the episode “Yellow”. This is set in World War I in the trenches, with Kirk Douglas guest-starring as the general (along with Lance Henriksen and Dan Aykroyd, of all people). What’s great is that his real-life son Eric Douglas also plays the general’s yellow-bellied cowardly son in the episode, forced into a war he didn’t want to fight. It’s even directed by Robert Zemeckis yet still has that Tales from the Crypt “twisted vibe” to it (can’t explain much without giving important plot points away). Anyways, great performance by Kirk, and great episode overall, highly recommend it. Not that hard to “search for”, too…
Might check that out. We only had HBO for about 2 years of my youth, and that wasn’t when Tales from the Crypt was on, so I’ve only ever seen about five episodes.
