   Ugh, this episode. One of the first I watched and thought what a complete waste of time it was. The anniversary of Whacking Day deserved something better.

   One of the earlier episodes I can remember seeing. When I was a kid, my mother was adamant that I couldn’t watch The Simpsons until I was 13, but she did say it was okay if one of my older family members wanted to watch it around me, so I snuck a few glimpses here and there. I caught this one at age 11, on a rerun in the summer of ’98 while we were visiting family in Chicago (I remember giggling at the line “I shoulda got off in Crackton”). Actually, I got to see quite a lot of The Simpsons on that vacation – my cousins were big fans, and I caught “Last Exit to Springfield” and “Itchy and Scratch Land” in syndication that week, and I got to read the Complete Guide book for the first time.

   Odd that I can remember all this but not what I had for dinner last night.
