Or Smithers shoots Mr Burns outside Homer’s car but Mr Burns drops his gun inside the car and Homer accidentally touches it later.
But that was just the fingerprint evidence. It was the eyelash that they got the DNA from, which meant the shooter and Burns would’ve had to have an up close and personal struggle. In the actual ending, it was Burns trying to take the candy from Maggie, but in the fake scenarios, none of them ever got close enough to Burns to leave DNA evidence.
Whoops i forgot about the eyelashes. I guess if the episode were made today and Smithers did it then we would be expected to ignore the dna
