This week we’ve got two links to rather large collections of Simpsons crossover concepts. The first link is movie posters, the second link contains everything from movies and television to video games and anime. There’s also a great post describing several things from the show that ended up in real life, an excellent Marge cake, some fan art, some crappy merchandise (including a terrifying Maggie doll), excellent usage, and a truly novel way to compare The Simpsons and Family Guy.
Enjoy.
@HomerJSimpson’s Tweets Explained – Smooth Charlie’s Link of the Week is a new Tumblr that was e-mail in by its author, Conor Lastowka, who writes for Rifftrax. I’ll let him explain:
The official, verified account for @homerjsimpson is the worst one on Twitter. The intern who runs it writes tweets that are too long to retweet with proper commentary, so I will explain them here.
That twitter feed is astonishingly bad, even by the low standards of celebrity (real or fictional) feeds that are written by someone else. Observe:
The whole account is well past not funny, and has nothing to do with Homer, the Simpsons generally, or anything else. No doubt some higher up though to themselves, “We need twit feeds for all our shows, find me someone to do it that won’t cost us anything”. It’s the tiniest, involuntary muscle twitch of the great FOX marketing beast, and anyone who wants to mock it is a-ok with me.
The Simpsons Effect – 21 Movie Poster Parodies featuring America’s Most DysFUNctional Family – A collection of famous movie posters redone with Simpsons characters. There are some great ideas here, including Herb and Homer in Step Brothers and the whole gang in Reservoir Donuts. Excellent.
The Simpsons Artworks – There are thirty-five Simpsons related images here, a few of which I’ve seen before but all of which are pop culture crossovers. Donut of the Colossus and Apu as Jules Winnfield stand out.
13 Simpsons Jokes That Actually Came True – This is a fantastic list of things from the show that went on to at least kinda sorta happen in real life. The Kill Bill billboard that shoots blood is fantastic. (Thanks to Jake J. via e-mail!)
The Worst Shows of 2011. – Our old friend Lenny runs down the bad in 2011. Zombie Simpsons makes it at #2, and comes with this:
there were a couple of episodes that I watched with someone who hadn’t been regularly watching where they said, “That was terrible!” and I was sort of taken aback by that and responded, “Oh. That was better than they’ve been.” The disparity between the expectations of someone who had just heard that The Simpsons isn’t as good anymore but hadn’t seen it for themselves and someone who has actually had their expectations beaten down by the past season was gigantic.
That was certainly my reaction when I started watching them again three years ago.
AUTO… the absurdity that is cars designed for women… – A righteous rant that includes excellent video usage of the Canyonero song.
The Truths of Time Travel – A Doctor Who fan observes:
Episode 8 of season 1 was called “Father’s Day” and dealt with the Doctor’s companion, Rose, fracking up Time with a Big T by saving her dad’s life, in 1987. Having gone through it myself, I’m not sure that being forced to live out 1987 would be a favor to anyone, but she seemed to think it was. 1987 was admittedly the year that “The Simpsons” started appearing on The Tracey Ullman Show, but the Simpsons were awesome because they were so different than everything else.
Indeed it was.
Ten Film Quotes that Just Stick (5) – D’oh, with efficient “Kamp Krusty” YouTube.
11 September 1929 – Homer Simpson – This is just something on the internet and doesn’t link to any source that I can see, but it seems a little too specific to be fake (via):
Homer Simpson was put on the electric chair on this day in 1929.
Disturbingly he was an ex-copper – a police chief no less – and he certainly wasn’t a resident of Springfield.
[…]
Instead he was from Georgia and the 40-year-old became “Mr Burns” after he was strapped to Old Sparky following his trial, which found him guilty of committing murder during a robbery.
He was fried along with 31-year-old Malcolm Morrow, who was done for the same crime.
I’d rather go by catapult.
Chocolate Pretzels. – Krusty Brand Seal of Approval for a mug and stale pretzels. It’s a “Collectors’ Mug”, of course.
Marge Simpson As A Little Girl by ~darthraner83 – This is clever, it’s Marge’s head grafted onto Lisa’s body, with Lisa’s dress turned green. Bravo.
5 THINGS: Yoga, Track and Other Things – Narragansett, RI Patch – Excellent usage:
“No teacher shall be held accountable if Bart Simpson dies…” – Bart reading the Springfield Elementary School charter. Since I’m reusing material from past Five Things, why not reuse some Simpsons quotes? Good times! Just like the last time I used a town charter quote, the Charter Review Committee is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. today at town hall. You might want to go, just to make sure they don’t put in an anti-YourChild’sNameHere policy, or so that they don’t give away a pig and two comely lasses of virtue true to the constable every month.
I don’t know if it will get anyone to attend one of those deathly dull town meetings, but it’s excellent usage none the less.
Vintage Maggie Simpson plush doll with plastic head – I’ll let the description speak for itself:
This is a Maggie Simpson doll from the early 1990s. She has a plastic head and cloth, stuffed body.
Click at your own risk. It looks like one of those deformed toys from the evil kid’s bedroom in Toy Story.
Lisa Simpson | Flickr – A detective Lisa doll, though it’s hard to tell if she’s only got one arm or if the other is behind her back.
Ten Four-Player Greats – Excellent usage:
Online multiplayer is arguably the most significant advancement that games have made in modern times. But online play is not a complete substitution for the good old-fashioned local multiplayer experience. In other words, to quote Monty Burns from The Simpsons, gaming still requires occasions wherein we "can relish the sights, the sounds, and, ah yes, the smells of other men."
Burns says “savor” not “can relish”, but other than that it’s dead on.
“I’m the kid that made delinquency an art” – I learned something today:
How many of you remember the Simpsons UK number one from 1991, “Do The Bartman“? It is nearly 21 years old now after all. Did you know that it was the first UK number one song by a cartoon act since the Archies in 1969? Which incidentally was the first single that I ever bought.
There’s even video of The Archies singing!
VIDEO: Abington magician has become one of ‘world’s finest’ – A fantastic coin trick magician got his start by playing a party for Nancy Cartwright:
“People like Mickey are rare,” Cartwright said by phone recently, lauding Silver as much for his personality as his talent. “He just blows me away. I have stood 14 inches away from him with him raining coins from his hands. It’s baffling. How does he do it?”
The video of the guy performing starts a little slow, but once it gets going it’s pretty damned impressive.
Marge Simpson by kandu001 on Cake Central – Awesome Marge cake. Happy 26th birthday, whoever that was for.
Girls Get Busy | retardgirl: WE ♥ LISA SIMPSON zine coming really… – Nice fan made drawing of Lisa with the symbol of Venus.
A Japanese Christmas – Teevee has lied to him:
In complete contrast though, I was immediately ready to believe that the Japanese called Santa Annual Gift Man, when he was introduced in an episode of The Simpsons in which John Waters guest stars as a gay antiques dealer. The episode also tells us that the Japanese have him residing on the moon rather than Lapland, or The North Pole, or Debenhams. So I’m unashamed to admit that I felt far more disappointment when I found out that The Simpsons had lied to me about Santa than I was when I had his non-existence confirmed somewhat unsurprisingly by my parents at the age of about 7.
Ha.
Line-follower is an homage to [Homer]; plans to infringe copyrights – There’s an episode in Season 15 where Homer pretends to be a battling robot for Bart. (He’s actually inside it and much wackiness and screaming ensues.) Someone built it as an actual robot, and there’s YouTube.
Top 10 “Rich” Fictional Characters – Burns checks in at #4, ahead of Tony Stark and Token from South Park.
Davis-Besse protesters perform street theater production – Anti-nuclear protesters dress up as Burns and Homer in front of an actual nuclear plant.
Public Transportation in Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Family Guy and The Simpsons – I have seen The Simpsons compared to Family Guy many times, I have never seen it done with regards to urban density and mass transit.
The Simpsons Game – The Land of Chocolate – A YouTube walkthrough of the first level of The Simpsons Game on the 360.
Bobo Smithers and other kitsch gems. – A small picture of a Smithers-in-the-Bobo-costume doll. Tugging at his fur will be difficult as he appears to be molded plastic.

Gotta agree with Homer’s twitter feed. It really isn’t ‘him’ at all.
At least its egregiously obvious that it isn’t one of the writers behind it, otherwise it would be a travesty.
I miss that weird, Yugoslavian Bart Simpson twitter feed. I wonder why it got shut down?
Oh, the Homer Twitter feed. It’s so awful; the sort of crap, hacky, ‘you kids get off my lawn’ jokes you get in Hi and Lois, etc, suddenly being ascribed to Homer. No effort to even make it sound like something Homer would say. It’s actually worse than the show itself is these days, and that’s saying something.
@HomerJSimpson is split between three of the show’s writers (this was revealed to me in a DM when I correctly guessed one of them)
As for the Yugoslavian Bart, the guy who runs it got bored as heck of it
That is a chilling reveal. Clearly they must begrudgingly provide the tweets in downtime, but you’d hope it would even occasionally rise to the level of ‘amusing.’
I’m just warning you now that apparently Zombie Simpsons are going to attempt political commentary on Sunday, and that I’m sure it will be as hackneyed and ham-fisted as you can imagine. Nothing sends a chill up my spine like a bunch of talentless comedy writers attempting political satire. They’ll fall for all of the stereotypes, rather than attempting fresh commentary.
I know the deal: Homer gets a political talk show (betting on it being a thinly-veiled Glenn Beck reference), and endorses someone for president. That person? Ted Nugent. Nugent, while awesome in his own right, is such a lazy choice. Everyone knows he’s nuts, deeply Republican, and probably considered running at some point.
The time they pitched Ralph running for president was better, and that was such a weak, rushed episode. The episode ended before anything could happen with that plot!
