“Hi there, hello, I’m Dean Peterson, but you can call me Bobby. I just want you to know, if you ever feel stressed out from studying or whatever, I’m always up for some hacky sack. Or hey, if you just want to come by and jam, I used to be the bass player for the Pretenders.” – Dean Peterson
“Boy, I can’t wait to take some of the starch out of that stuffed shirt.” – Homer Simpson

I don’t know why, but it’s the “Pretenders” specification that just elevates this joke. I’ve actually played the joke in my head using other band names, and they’re all either not hip enough, or so hip they overtake the rest of the joke.
If I recall correctly, The Pretenders have undergone many personnel changes. I guess that’s what makes it work.
Have you heard about this? I am a big HK fan and I saw this on her Facebook.

I think TV and movies did lie to Homer, as they have to all of us. Maybe that’s the point of this particular scene.
