“Well, I’ve had it! I am going to make it my mission to see that our friend Bob is set free.” – Birch Barlow
“Nooooooo!” – Bart Simpson
“Well, despite Bart’s objections, the people of South Africa can now vote in free, democratic elections.” – Mrs. Krabappel

An early sign of Zombie Simpsons things to come: a 10 year old listening to political talk radio while attending 4th grade class in school.
Also, R.I.P. Marcia Wallace.
I wouldn’t call that ZS. The show had on numerous occasions kids act like adults, still without losing their “kid” side.
It would be very ZS however to have Bart come in front of the class for some reason and start explaining why South Africa is democratic. That I won’t dig, even as a joke.
Isn’t he listening to it because Lisa told him in the previous scene that Sideshow Bob was on the show? I don’t think we’re supposed to infer that Bart has a general fondness for listening to Birch Barlow.
Plus, the fact that he’s doing this in class means he’s almost certainly breaking a couple rules, which is still very Bart.
At least “Noooooo!” is a lot easier to feign being in response to the lecture than “Whoa! These are way better than the comics I get at the dentist’s office!”
What I meant was that ZS writers probably look at scenes like this out of context and use them as an excuse for whatever out-of-character/outside-the-realms-of-everyday-reality ideas they want to inject in their episodes, disregarding the whole purpose of satirizing average contemporary life or entertainment tropes.
Yeah, like how the Land of Chocolate sometimes get brought up as justification for filler imagine spots. Only the Land of Chocolate was funny.
That’s the thing: there are hallmarks of Zombie Simpsons that actually date back to the classic era. The big difference is the classic era did them well.
Not to mention it’s a lot better when used sparingly.
yeh great point, and like… sometimes in the classic era homer will get hurt.
What are you even trying to say?
Forget about it. Why do I even try? :P
The show can’t even handle situations where kids do adult stuff anymore. Like everything, there is no purpose to it anymore, they just up and become adults all of a sudden. Having characters come out of nowhere and disappear into thin air is awful yet bearable depending on the circumstances. But having Lisa lead a group of late teens, or having Bart decide between his love interests like he’s some college boy… Ah fuck it, they’d throw pure garbage at you and you guys would still watch it. This website’s not for me.
Um. You know this website is… anti-Zombie Simpsons, right?
Yep.
This was, when it was still a show, even really really really bad. Today it’s beyond my viewer time. They torture people and these guys deserve to die, and if you can’t ever switch to watching something else then you’re just weak.
Wow. Okay.
Love the subtle tribute to such a great man and his struggle for freedom and justice in South Africa even if such a quote was posted the day after his death.
This joke slays me every single time. RIP Mandela.
