   I’m not getting the joke. Was the guy ruining some “atmosphere” with his playing? Or is this a fart joke? Weird.

      Nah. The man is saying that he’s sentenced there so that he can provide that lonesome, confined feeling that is often stereotypically conveyed by harmonica players in prison shows and movies.

         The joke is much lamer that way though. But I guess, unlike us in the USSR, you Westerners seldom got any “apolitical” artist prisoners.
