I’ve always thought of this scene as the great culmination of this episode (for those who criticized it as being too disjointed). Later seasons might’ve used this for further pointless chasing, but here it just ends with the mob going to get some cider on a whim.
What’s so great about it is that they’re still following Brad Goodman’s advice: they’re doing as they’re feeling. First they get into fistfights with each other, then they chase after Bart, until finally deciding to go to the cider mill, and all within one minute. I was among the “disjointed” crowd at first before I rewatched the episode again a few times and realized how brilliant the ending was.
The writers always made fun of mob mentality.
