This quote reminds of one work incident, when we were a pretty small team (5 or 6 people), and the newcomer was a non-out homosexual (as in, everyone knew that he had an official husband, but he never really stood up his “pride” overtly, you know). And we’ve decided to never speak of it with him around, like just avoid discussing it overall. So one day this guy comes to work and our receptionist was told that it’s his husband’s one year at a new position after promotion anniversary, but she forgot what the event was and for some reason decided to lure it out of the guy himself. So she says:
“Oh, btw John, I’m supposed to say something about Claude (his husband), but I can’t put my finger on it.”
“That he’s gay?” he asks cautiously.
    “No, we all knew that…”
“That he’s passive in bed?” he asks even more cautiously.
Then she blushed. It was really funny.

Ruth was a fun character, shame they didn’t use her a little more.

She was one of those characters like Allison Taylor or Jessica Lovejoy who could’ve made a really interesting recurring character who’d open up new opportunities for the show, but was cursed with the inconvenience of being voiced by a celebrity guest star, dooming her to one or two appearances, tops.

Oh puhlease! Sideshow Bob is voiced by a rather unreachable guest star – look where that has gotten him.

I suppose. Still, if they really wanted to keep her on, they could’ve found a voice actor who could do the role consistently. As great as The Simpsons was, it was always somewhat lacking in interesting recurring female characters (though that’s not to say it didn’t have any, personally I’ve always been partial to Mrs. Krabappel) and I think it would’ve been cool for Marge to have an interesting friend that she regularly hung out with.
