Ruth is the cutest lesbian character soul-wise I’ve ever known.

I really hate how they wasted Ruth and her daughter (and the original writers do agree). All those times Marge lamented having no friends (or had friends who tried to screw her over, like Milhouse’s mom, Reverend Lovejoy’s wife, Maude Flanders, and Principal Skinner’s mom) and they didn’t include her?

That was a single episode thing. Marge has been basically a housewife all the time prior to zombification. Her only friends were the kitchen appliances.
Ruth, on the other hand, was that embodiment of wildness like some people well under 40 just want to throw everything away and drive nonstop into the sunset. That’s why Marge on the Lam worked so well. However, unlike Ruth, Marge is a homesick person, so that didn’t work out.
As for the first “Bart falls in love” episode ever, it never was about Ruth. At least not the way I remembers it.
