I rewatched this episode earlier. In some ways, it feels downright sappy and sentimental compared to some of the funnier and more classic episodes that would come later, but they still managed to pull it off in a way that didn’t seem TOO much like a sugar-coated after school special. And there was plenty of good humor to balance the mushy stuff.
