I never got this joke. Does the lesbian confuse Homer to be a butch lesbian or something? If so, how does she not see that he’s bald with a comb-over and most glaringly of all, a 5 o’clock shadow/stubble. Can someone please explain this to me? Thanks.
“Oh, Bart, cartoons don’t have to be 100% realistic.”
Yeah, I always just figured the absurdity of it *was* the joke.
Exactly. A play on the ancient “credibile est, quia ineptum est.” Existentialism and Absurdism have always been at the core of Simpsons (and Life In Hell’s) humor.
I figured they just blanket assumed it was a woman because why the hell would a man be in a lesbian bar in the first place. Also, this is yet another quote I’m shocked hasn’t been used already on QOTD.
I would want to believe they thought Homer was a trans woman, but given the poor treatment of trans people in The Simpsons (or any non LGGG people), I highly doubt it.
That’s how I always interpreted the joke.
They thought he was a woman, joke being he clearly isn’t and they aren’t too bright
I understand, honey. I used to believe in things when I was a kid.
Unrelated, but I saw Charlie praising Rogue One. Since he gave Jedi an A- and Rogue One a B+, and I outright hate Jedi, I think I’ll hate R1 too.
So what do you people like and hate about the new Cosmic Wars movie?
In the latin Spanish dub the lesbian says “what does that bald woman think she is?”
For the confused people, yeah, they likely were assuming Homer was just a really, really butch lesbian.
This is one of my favorite gay jokes from the show that doesn’t involve Smithers. It’s quick and funny and twists your expectations of the punchline. It would have been nice if The Simpsons (and not Zombie Simpsons) had come up with a decent lesbian character. Patty doesn’t count to me.
