This episode focuses on one of my favorite facets of Homer’s characterization – that he can in fact work hard and be very enthusiastic about something, but only when that something is incredibly stupid. He puts so much effort into reaching his goal of making himself morbidly obese, but he thinks he’s doing something really great and admirable and he’s so proud of himself for achieving it. You can’t help but like him.
