The meanest line said on the Simpsons, but it was presented in a comedic way, that the hospital won’t be built because Homer wanted a shitty bookcase.

The guy sure was quick to cancel the entire building project, even though it looks half-done already. Surely someone could’ve gotten hold of 6 more bricks? Heck, I recon the supplier would’ve let them have them for free if asked, given that the project must have absolutely zero budget if 6 missing blocks could shut it all down.
Is it bad that this has kept me up at night before? XD

      Classic gag-line of course!

These days, they’d just crowd-fund replacements. Or they could’ve just asked for replacements to be donated. But then we wouldn’t have a hilariously cruel joke.

This is pure David Mirkin, where one simple innocuous decision rapidly snowballs out of control and ruins the lives of lots of innocent people, but then it’s never mentioned again. Like that quick two-second gag in “Homie the Clown” where Homer stops to read a billboard and like 20 cars behind him crash and explode. I guess that’s the secret to doing dark humor, you don’t want to dwell on it too long.

The nice thing with your example and this QotD is that Homer is not intentionally being harmful to other people. Selfish? Yes. But if he knew the consequences, he would have stopped in time.

Even though there is a 99% chance that a Home Depot would of probably given the Children’s Hospital six cement blocks

The joke is that a hospital, which takes millions of dollars (and millions of bricks) to build, would notice the absence of six cinder blocks that probably cost less than ten bucks, and yet this is enough to derail the entire project.
