Well, it’s official: Marge and Lisa are Disney princesses now.

Personally the only “good” outcome I see is that Disney now has the distribution rights of all Star Wars movies, which means the classic Fox fanfare could return to the franchise and that it may be possible for Disney to release a restoration of the theatrical cuts of OT without waiting for 2020 (when the distribution rights of TESB, RotJ and the prequels would go to Disney) and without the need to negociate with Fox for SW (because Fox has permanent distribution rights for the first movie), although I don’t have any hope I’ll see a restoration of the theatrical OT in the short/mediun term.
Other than that, I predict Zombie Simpsons will never die.

It has crossed my mind today that with Disney now owning The Simpsons, is it possible that they’ll make an effort to “fix it” and regain some of its former popularity? Maybe Al Jean will be replaced?
Zombie Simpsons should still have complete immunity against network interference. However, since Disney has way more money than Fox, Troy McClure’s unprofitability argument* is no longer one of the many ways the show could get cancelled.

Me neither. The original versions were briefly available on DVD in the 2000s.
The 2006 releases were based on the masters used for the 1993 Laserdiscs, so they had shit quality by 2006’s standards (tons of DVNR issues, a lot of dirt, mute colors, poor details), and even if the theatrical cuts got a nice DVD release back then there would be no reasons to prevent a BD release too.
No one is asking for the erasure of the awful Special Editions, both versions can coexist. Unfortunately a lot of fans doesn’t care or they’re completely hostile because it would go against George’s wishes (ignoring the OT was a collaborative project and the first movie was saved by his wife Marcia during the editing process) or because they’re non canonical (why would you care that much about canon?)
George Lucas doesn’t want the theatrical cuts of the OT to have UHD restorations and releases, and the clowns at Lucasfilm and Disney are respecting his wishes.
In season 10’s “When You Dish Upon a Star” at the end of the episode in a scene taking place a month later 20th Century Fox is owned by Disney. It was just a matter of time.
