Ah, my favorite crossover. Too bad it’s better than most of what they’ve been putting out recently, though they did seem to put some effort into that last one.
(The X-Files, of course. Zombie Simpsons hasn’t put any effort into it in well over a decade.)
Personally I do think both this episode and “The Twisted World of Marge Simpson” are very representative of the less Zombie episodes from Season 8 (although “Twisted” is worse): they’re still good but the plots are way thinner and there’s some explicit, not-so-great filler. Basically, not enough for an entire episode but not too little for a B-plot. And the jokes aren’t that amazing.
“A Star is Burns” isn’t perfect either (a little more could have been done with Jay), but it doesn’t have pacing problems or weak jokes.
