   The Simpsons aren’t relevant to current society anymore. Much of today’s 20-23 demographic won’t get these jokes, nor the references the show made back then. Some fans will always love it, just as did the Flintstones fans in the early 1990s, when most of the people were like “Watching Flintstones in 1993? WTF?!”. Sadly, or maybe not, the young adults of today prefer watching vids on YouTube and making those pesky memes about stuff you have to know pop culture to understand firsthand. Therefore, every attempt at both hating on Zombie Simpsons and/or reminiscing about The Simpsons (era) would always fail. This show’s history, either way.

      I still love this show, and I always will, but like anything that gets older the references and jokes will get more obscure over time. Most people I’ve spoken to, even casual fans, agree that the new episodes are crap and the old ones were great though.

         I didn’t mean casual fans, I meant people aged 20-23 today and who hear about “90s Simpsons being good”. 95% if them won’t get these jokes, but unlike slapstick (for example), they’re not timeless.

            KR, you know what I did when I was younger and didn’t “get” something, whether it was in a book or movie or even an episode of The Simpsons? I asked someone older than me to explain it, or looked it up. It never stopped me from enjoying anything and I learned something new in the process. Today’s generation also has the internet literally at their fingertips, so unless they’re extremely lazy and need everything spoon-fed to them (which might account for some of the constant exposition on Zombie Simpsons), they can figure things out. Besides, a lot of the material and jokes on the classic show are timeless, you don’t need to get every little reference to enjoy it.

            By the way, I find your comments ironic considering you’re using the name of a new character in an ongoing series that’s been around since before The Simpsons existed, and only continues due to the popularity of the original and the fact that Hollywood has to franchise everything to death these days.

            You make it sound as though the Simpsons was just a string of pop culture references, like those worthless so-called parody movies by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. There was so much more to it. Pop culture references are peppered in but that was hardly the foundation of the show. Even if someone missed every reference made the show is still great.

               No, I make it sound like today everything a show needs in order to survive is pop culture references. Or internet references. Or memes. Take a look at the passage just above your post, from Anonymous, and this had to be typed in just because I used “Kylo Ren” as nickname. Figures.

               Against this kind of entertainment the Simpsons are powerless. Events (like the ongoing FIFA 2018) making people go literally bonkers on the net. Hollywood producing movies with income 5x worth of investment, all actors paid EVEN BEFORE said movie hits the theaters.

               There is just no more place for The Simpsons (not Zombie Simpsons) in this world. Of comedy, that is.

         IMO the Simpsons are to TV what the Beatles are to music. Not topping the charts anymore but still one of the most popular of all time with one of the biggest influences left behind. It’ll always be watched and quoted, it’ll never leave the public consciousness. The footprint it made is just too big to be erased at this point, and that’s a good thing.

            I have no problem with The Simpsons being so popular, I just find ironic how KR is complaining about pop culture when The Simpsons is pop culture.
