Such a bipolar episode. There’s a ton of Jerkass Homer and Dumb Burns, yet they still manage to cram some decently funny jokes and scenes into it. And I never really took it seriously about anyone drowning in the net here, so that part didn’t bother me too much.

They got my bus pass! Yeah it’s not a bad ep. The scenes with Mr Burns are pretty bad but the episode is funny enough overall. I love the way the random guys are drowned. It’s pretty dark how Homer feels something clawing at his leg but soon stops.

Well, Mr. Burns thinking he was “indestructible” was pretty funny, but yeah, most of his scenes we’re weak overall.

It’d be funny if this was the last episode so all those characters would just be presumed canonically dead.

‘Honeydew is the money melon’ is such an obvious ‘writers’ joke, in that only those in the writers’ conference room found it funny, most likely.

After rewatching this the other night, Jerkass Homer is definitely the worst part of it. They wind him up and he just doesn’t stop. A few things I could excuse him for, like stealing the set piece after not winning an award, or wanting to be rich and throw wild shindigs, but he’s a total jackass from start to finish. Marge has a few dumb and out of character moments too. She’s woozy from giving blood (so Homer can attempt to steal her award, only to get his hand slapped away), but she was fine throughout the beginning, despite the fact that they had to have been there a few hours for so many other people to win? Scratching her butt with the fork (the joke was mildly amusing, but felt more like it belonged on Family Guy), making only half-hearted attempts to keep Homer out of trouble. She and Lisa don’t really get much to do. I think this is when they started get fond of the episodes where Bart and Homer do fun things while Marge and Lisa get some dumb (or “intentionally dumb”) B plot, if anything at all.

So yeah, a number of amusing moments, but contaminated with the foul stench of Zombie.
