An ongoing ramble by Charlie Sweatpants . .
I think the writers admit in the commentary that it was a kind of a silly premise for people in 1990 to be so excited about sharing this fairly tame picture, but the story would be completely believable in a modern setting if Bart’s photo just happened to be amusing enough to go viral online.
Things used to “go viral” before the internet. And I’m pretty sure most of the citizens were sharing it because they found it more humorous than salacious.
