They’re just so nonchalant about the whole thing.
I think it was great the way they handled this. Homer wants to lose weight, but ends up with a different tape instead and hilarity ensues. If Zombie Simpsons tried to do this, either Homer would have gotten the weight loss tape with something stupid happening, like it working too well with him becoming practically emaciated, or they would have gone with something even dumber, like having him get the hostage negotiation tape and be really successful with it instead of using it as a quick joke.
Oh, and one more thing, the irony of that guy calling Homer “fatso” when he looks pretty hefty himself is another great, quick gag.
