The game show would’ve been better with Hartman, obviously, but it was still pretty good.

and the Simpsons wiki seems to think the same thing. However, I couldn’t find mentions of it on SNPP or Wikipedia. I guess it might take more digging to find anything else.
I am 99.99% sure. There is so source he was meant to be the show host. I would want there to be one of course; Id like to hear the original transcript recording.
I mean, if you think about it logically, that’s exactly the kind of role they’d give him, not Ed McMahon at random. But yeah, unless there’s a source, I guess it’s hard to prove for sure.
