Necro-post ahoy! I have only found your site in the last few weeks and am now mercilessly reading everything you have, from start to finish, and I didn’t want to start commenting away on your stuff from… three? years ago… but I have to on this one.
This is the SINGLE GREATEST QUOTE in The Simpsons. Period. There’s a bunch that come close, obviously, and I know it’s hard to nail one quote as better than the rest, but… my god… Burns’ delivery of the line? He seamlessly moves from mockingly jovial (or jovially mocking) to downright villainously offensive between “You’re the fattest thing I’ve ever seen!” and “And I’ve been on safari.” He SHATTERS Homer in about three seconds flat. Even the animation captures it just right. And it’s not JUST a great line. It’s the PERFECT ‘last straw’ to make Marge kick him out. Only Burns. And only The Simpsons. Just brilliant.
Glad you both found and like the site. And yeah, I love this line. Season 2 is full of great deliveries of great writing, in no small part because it was when they really figured out how to have Burns be totally callous towards other people.
