always wondered why that part has such choppy animation :>

Always wondered why that made it so funny.

Maybe an error that they decided, “Hey, this makes the part funny. Let’s throw it in.”

I love how the frame subtly shifts to the left as Homer quickly brushes his teeth, all while the background is static with the exception of Bart blinking once. Ah, the wonders of old-school cell animation. (Or is that just the GIF encoder’s doing?)

Not to brag about it, but this joke is rather stupid. I mean it kinda shows the moronic Homer instead of just regular stupid Homer. It’s still tons better than when Family Guys did their celeb jokes, but… somehow I’m not laughing.

Oh, I don’t think it’s all that bad. It’s part of the recurring gag of Homer finding value in other people’s cast-offs (coat-hangers, copper wire, oestrogen tablets), his penchant for taking stuff from Flanders (TV tray, power sander, camcorder, the couch), and his inability to keep away from stuff that’s rancid (xref: the giant hoagie). And these are traits that long pre-date Zombie Simpsons.

Forget Zombie Simpsons, this is like Season 4. Maybe stealing from Flanders was funny, but this particular joke. Especially when Homer goes “eww”. Kinda makes you want to throw up if you’re watching this while eating. Of course far from all of them are like this.

Well it’s certainly a shame that you have the constitution of a delicate southern belle Stan, but I’d hardly consider that a legitimate criticism.

“Delicate Southern Belle”? Is it because any middle-class American woman would not hesitate to laugh at her husband brushing his teeth with a toothbrush some toilet bowl was probably scrubbed with?

            1. Paddy Fleming (@PaddayF) Avatar

If her husband was in fact a fictional character in a cartoon then sure why not? Wait, are you saying that you’re married to Homer? I’m afraid I’m not sure what you’re getting at here.

The fact that you implied not finding a joke funny was something that a person could brag about says way more than anything that followed.

The hell are you talking about?

The part before that had Lisa saying that their family would have to be the cultural elite of town in order to get tickets to the Krusty anniversary show and Homer coming in brushing with a used toothbrush show that The Simpsons are too disgusting to be considered “elite” (mostly because of Homer). It was pretty much the premise to the season seven episode “Scenes from a Class Struggle in Springfield” (the episode where Marge buys that fancy Chanel suit and nearly gets into a country club).

    Oh come on, Staniel!
This is no more stupid than the universally brilliant
“Hello, my name is Mr Burns… I believe you have a letter for me.”
“Ok Mr Burns and what was your first name?”
    “… I don’t know.”

Homer is a stupid moron. Tis why we love(d) him.
Who else but our favourite moronic boob would hijack the crash site of a tanker truck full of sugar for profit?
    “Since I don’t see him around… ”
    “Texas T… sweetener!”

Poor guy can’t even put a simple doghouse together, and you wanna rag on him for procuring a perfectly good toothbrush?

Now that’s a swollen ass that needs paddling… with paddles.

Was this addressed to me (not sure whose name is there)?

But if it was, I meant the joke was moronic only because to me, personally, it provokes the feeling of nausea. It’s disgusting. And if you’d know me (which you wouldn’t since I keep people at a distance), I laugh at many stupid, even utterly moronic things Homer does. Much of what you stated as example is laughable. It’s just this… brushing your teeth with your neighbor’s used toothbrush… Really, EEEEWWWW! Even eating a half-rotten dusty hoagie from underneath your couch isn’t as disgusting because it is YOUR hoagie, after all.

The choppy animation is definitely not an accident

Yeah. It’s pretty much the end result of switching overseas animation houses (from season 1-3, they were with Klasky-Csupo [the people who brought you most of Nickelodeon’s crudely drawn 1990s Nicktoons, like Rugrats and The Wild Thornberries, and the criminally underrated USA Channel cartoon, Duckman. From season four to…I don’t know, 9 or 10, they went with Film Roman, and there were times where the Film Roman animation looked kinda choppy and mediocre. Not as disastrous as Klasky-Csupo, but at least it wasn’t as cold and soulless as whatever animation house they currently have).
