Wow, even by Season 10, the artwork had really started to drop off. Just looking at this frame, I knew it wasn’t from the Golden Era.
Actually the artwork is still classic, golden era Simpsons. Season 10 is the last great season of Classic Simpsons.
It’s an outsourcing thing. Anivision’s episodes were starting to look really funky in Seasons 9 and 10 – lots of off-model faces and weird poses and choppy animation. I believe the show dropped them permanently in Season 11 and replaced them with the much more reliable Rough Draft.
But what about AKOM and ToonZone? Didn’t the staff abandon Rough Draft for those, which is why the animation really tanked between seasons 13 and whenever it switched to HD.
