If anyone with actual credibility had yelled out Kirk’s line, Apu would have been finished. Plus, how bad does it make Kirk look that HE is the one to suggest unruly, anti-social behaviour, AND that no one listens to him. Comedy that stems from character, as well as being a couple of cheap laughs. Classic Simpsons.
I think Kirk doing that goes with Kirk’s change in personality following the divorce (“A Milhouse Divided”), which a lot of people thought was a bad thing, as Kirk became more of a loser (though when he and Luann were together, they didn’t have much in the way of personality, except for the fact that Luann thought Bart was a bad influence on her son and Kirk worked at the cracker factory).
And Luann was from Shelbyville, which burns Kirk up inside. He was a loser in Lemon of Troy, which I THINK was before the divorce? I’m pretty sure he was always played as something of a weak-willed loser. Milhouse but grown up.
It’s neat thinking about how each of these characters are individually drawn just for these couple of seconds
And, you can also easily see Comic Book Guy’s corpulence and how it compares with the rest of the crowd
He really makes Kearny look small
I was thinking the same thing, Victor! I’m amazed at just how much bigger he is compared to everyone else.
Yeah, quite impressive, right? I think the only person that could possibly match him in size is Comic Book Girl. Or that killer whale Moe tried to kidnap..

Funny this is, from this perspective, they’re all standing like zombies. There is no liveliness in their poses.
Yeah, you would think that bunch of them would have their fists clenched or have their arms in the air.
