An ongoing ramble by Charlie Sweatpants . .
The iron as a phone part is a reference to an old joke about a guy (or a dumb blonde, if it’s one of those dumb blonde jokes) who goes to the doctor with a burnt ear and tells the doctor he got it because he heard the phone ring while he was ironing and put the iron to his ear by mistake. The phone rang again and he did the same thing.
They couldn’t give Grampa a burnt ear as a callback? Oh, well…
lol what kind of humor is this? Vaudeville? C’mon show, you can do better.
Vaudeville humor seems to crop up every once in a while in Al Jean and Mike Reiss episodes. See also the “that’s good/that’s bad” routine from Treehouse of Horror III.
Well between this and pure stand-up delivery, it’s still better. But not by a mile.
