It’s funny that Homer immediately thinks Dean Peterson is going to be a bitter hardass because of TV and movie deans like this, despite all evidence to the contrary, but then you’ve got to remember Principal Dondelinger was almost exactly like this. So maybe it’s not just fictional characters that have shaped his view on them, but also personal experience.
Yeah as bad as Homer is in this episode. He’s very much obsessed with movies and had a principle he disliked. He’s not Jerkass Homer. Just an idiot. But a loveable one though.
This QotD inspired me to watch this episode last night. Then I checked the capsule on SNPP just for fun, and damn. I can’t believe so many people hated on such a classic episode when it first came out! I mean, Charlie has talked about the “deep nerds” before, but that was just painful to read. I bet their heads would explode if they watched anything past season 7-8, let alone the state of Zombie Simpsons right now.
