I don’t really get this joke. Anyone mind explaining?
Since at least World War II, and probably World War I or even earlier, a lot of Americans have had a sort of knee-jerk dislike/disdain of France. This is usually based on the oversimple idea that French people look down on us as uncultured hicks even though we saved their ass twice.
Ha! I was going to cite “Freedom Fries” as the most prominent recent example and, sure enough, there’s a Wikipedia article about them:
