The above is yet another one of those little moments on The Simpsons where they came up with a funny concept, and then honed it to triple-ply comedy perfection that takes only a few seconds. Note the tears along the sleeves, shoulder and waist, Homer has ruined Marge’s carefully preserved wedding dress (was this before or after he used it to wax the car?), all because he doesn’t know how, or just doesn’t want, to do a simple load of laundry. Moreover, he’s clearly getting into it. Not only is he wearing the garter, holding the bouquet, and has the flower/veil thing on his head, but he lifts the dress as he descends the stairs, daintily sniffs the flowers, and hums Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus” to himself. He wanted to wear the wedding dress, and so he did.

Wow, I never noticed the tears before.
I never noticed him sniffing the flowers or humming the “Bridal Chorus” before. Good catch! It’s been one of my favorite moments for ages.

See, Zombie Simpsons still does it. And they think they do it right when they get Homer naked and give his clothes to the dog, for example. But whilest it just passes for a speck of tiresome slapstick comedy, this one (the moment you refer to in this entry) feels much more like something a regular dumb person would do for the thrill. Not because it’s some idiot doing absolutely ridiculous things for no reason, plus this idiot somehow has the ability to dress properly and talk properly when he’s wanted. It’s robotic idiocy versus this gentle dumbness of the moment. And god fuck did Zombie Simpsons lose it loooong ago.
