Though this quote is correct, I always wondered why it wasn’t, “I stand BY my record”? I’ve never heard anyone say they stood ON something, just “BY” or “FOR”.
I’ve heard similar phrases before, it implies that what they’re “standing on” is durable/reliable.
Isn’t that standing “on” meaning he hasn’t beaten his record? I’ve always heard “standing by” something as being right. It’s a different context.
