    Great animation on Skinner…

Gads, I miss those days where Skinner had an aura of toughness to him. There was a scene where he took out a bunch of Disney lawyers with his shoe or something. Sure, he seemed to be a pushover to the kids, but in reality, he was badass.

I think his character jumped the shark in Skinner’s Sense of Snow, where he was completely overrun by the kids at the school. I remember watching that episode and cringing at his inability to cope.

Actually, I’d rather call the original Skinner “protective” of his school and of the children in it. He always stood up for the kids, albeit in his own, awkward ways. But he WAS devoted to the cause, even when Krabappel pretty much cornered him about how the school is a practical joke in the PTA Disbands.

And I’d say that the real shit started with the Principal and the Pauper. Set aside the fact of shoddy storrytelling in this one, all that Skinner (Tamzarian) does in it, once he’s discovered to be a fraud, is to leave the school once again. It’s as if he didn’t need Bart anymore to call him a sucker or a sissy (which was pretty much the joke in the original series), he ends up doing it himself. And as for past Season 20 Skinner… I don’t even want to talk about that guy.

By the way, that seems to be a general theme (whether intentional of not) of ZS writing: neuter the characters.

They’ve done this especially to Skinner…but *especially* to Moe, and Mr. Burns.

Heck, they’ve done this to everyone nowadays: even captain McAllister acts like some closet-dwelling pisciphile or something.
And I agree: weird = funny. But not when it’s pummeled to the ground like that.

Yeah, it was great that he was both (apparently) former special forces, but also such a square that the only question he could ask a successful businessman (Burns) was “Which do you think is more important: hard work or stick-to-itivenness?”

Frank, one of the greatest points/posts I ever read regarding Skinner.

I found Skinner´s line in the latinamerican dub even more awesome:
      “SKINNER. Registered Trade mark.”

It looks like the same animation from, I think, “Bart’s Friend Falls in Love” when he says, “just like they forgot about me in that tiger cage for 18 agonizing months.” Which is to say, awesome.

Undisputable number one Skinner scene is when Bart starts giving pranky Valentine candy.

“The year was 1968. We were on recon in a steaming Mekong delta. An overheated private removed his flack jacket, revealing a T-shirt with an ironed-on sporting the MAD slogan “Up with Mini-skirts!”. Well, we all had a good laugh, even though I didn’t quite understand it. But our momentary lapse of concentration allowed “Charlie” to get the drop on us. I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew made of fish, vegetables, prawns, coconut milk, and four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just can’t get the spices right!”

lol I love Skinner’s (former) mix of being a bit of hard ass as well as being naive in many ways. Reminds me of the visual gag of Skinner’s cook-out apron in Season 5: “Principals do it 9 moths a year” or something.

I just realized Skinner’s line from “Lisa’s Rival” (when he approaches Ralph’s diorama) is the most succinct summary of what it feels like to cross into the ZS seasons–especially that last few years:

“Ooh, now we’re into the dregs.”
