That’s such a hilarious line. It really summarized the ridiculous TV shows/specials that Fox was putting out during that time.
I always thought this totally was intended to be a Troy McClure line, but then, you know :(
Nah, tenth season, stupid THoH sketch with Homer getting Snake’s scalp… forget it. Hartman died for nothing.
Originally, Troy McClure was supposed to be the host, but during production, he was killed, so the staff had to rewrite/reanimate the entire part to make it a) not in bad taste, and b) make it look like it’s an Ed MacMahon special.
That explains a lot. This bit always seemed off to me, and not just because I had no idea who Ed McMahon is. Animation/voice style just didn’t seem very… Simpsons.
