Anyone notice in Al Jean’s scripts, how fond he is of pop culture references? Yes, there are references in most Simpsons episodes, but Jean goes overboard in the pop culture-referencing; re-watch HOMR or Lisa’s Sax for good examples.

I’m pretty sure the primary reason he and Mike Reiss did “The Critic” was so they could have a show that was just wall-to-wall pop culture references.
