Heh, I was re-watching Season 7 recently. You posting this made me think about how fucking ludicrously layered this show is. Charlie, you talked before about how this is the most anti-authoritarian show ever made… in this scene we have the town leader (a government official) not only aware of a problem, but also being the cause of it and then promising to eradicate it even though he has no intention of doing so because it fulfills his own selfish desires. The message being that government causes intentionally causes without remorse.
All of this coming from a line of dialogue that seems like a totally throwaway Yogi Bear reference. Fucking brilliant.
A better metaphor for the way power manipulates the populace I have never seen.
