Didn’t know if you have seen this already: http://time.com/3194113/als-ice-bucket-challenge-simpsons-homer/

This is unrelated to the current post, but I just want to say, keep up the good work.

Over at the Simpsons subreddit, any comment that is even mildly critical of the Season 13 tripe that’s currently airing on FXX is downvoted to hell. I must confess it’s very bizarre to be confronted by people who actually derive pleasure from Zombie Simpsons.

Well, to several people (such as those on NoHomers), Seasons 13-16 constitute something of a “silver era” for the show- something that at least tried to resemble the classic seasons and pull back from the excesses of the Scully era. Personally, I do have a tinge of nostalgia for seasons 15 and 16: they were among the first new episodes I watched. (I haven’t watched them in a while, though, so I don’t know how well they hold up- probably not very well.)

Come season 17, which is when ZS (arguably) became more of a South Park clone, the opinions on Reddit might become more critical of the show.

Thanks. I hope to have a little more on this tomorrow, but criticizing Zombie Simpsons often brings out a very intense backlash (counter-backlash?). It’s a weird phenomenon.

Amusing to see some of the live blogs referring to S13/14 dreck as part of a ‘silver age’. As well as @EverySimpsons, the Homer’s Ass Groove account is giving it all a sympathetic hearing, and not responding to critical comments. They even seemed to like Brawl In The Family. It’s very odd.

Well, Reddit is literally crawling with fanboys of any and all stripe so that is of absolutely no surprise.

As for people still going out on a limb to defend criticism of of ZS, a few possibilities:

-Latecomers are desensitized to ZS because that’s what they were first exposed to. Especially post-movie because Season 20+ is essentially the nadir– no “downfall” because the writers already stopped giving a shit long ago.
-Nostalgia beer goggles activated! Commence Simpsons white knighting in 3..2..1
-The Family Guy Factor–Criticizing the current shittiness of FG tends to involve knee-jerk support of ZS in comparison. The lesser of two “evils.”
-Criticism = H8t3r = Trolololol. Kill it with fire! (and downvotes)

Solution: Never, ever go on reddit

I watched ZS for longer than I cared to admit simply out of denial. I didn’t want to think that such a great show went into such a decline in quality.

Oh, the FXX marathon is still going on? I wouldn’t know. I don’t watch crap.

  4. […] Before I get into a couple of examples, let me say that I completely understand this.  People just want to discuss or praise the show; they don’t want to have an argument with some pissed off fanboi who may or may not turn out to be a flaming troll asshole.  This is why you’ll often see articles about the show (and this has been everywhere with the FXX marathon) start with some kind of disclaimer about how people complain too much, “blah blah blahing” away criticism of later years, and similar.  It’s simply easier to preempt people from calling you a bitter, uncool Comic Book Guy type than it is to deal with it after the fact.  (This exact phenomenon came up in comments on Wednesday.)
