Why didn’t people like this episode? Didn’t they know it was a send-up of all the lame TV shows out there that came before (and sometimes after) The Simpsons? Oh, wait, there are people out there so humorless that they don’t know what satire or jokes are unless someone tells them. That explains the current episodes.
Think that might actually have been a factor in the dumbing down of the show? That the writers were reading complaints from people who weren’t appreciating the more intellectual and experimental episodes of Seasons 7 and 8 and decided “Okay, let’s just go broader and sillier”?
Well, that and competition from “South Park” (which I believe was starting up around this time).
I like the episode, but I can see why other people might not go for it. It’s not like it was super duper funny, and some people don’t like annoying and cheesy stuff even when it is being used as satire.
