We’re getting kinda done around here with “Bart Gets a Z”. (Not a moment too soon, as far as I’m concerned.) But there was one final thing I wanted to point out: you cannot keep these characters from aging. Biology won’t let you. “Bart Gets a Z” had a lot of Mrs. Krabappel, who is voiced by Marcia Wallace. But the 2009 version of Mrs. Krabappel’s voice is very different from the one we all grew to love in the 1990s. It’s gotten noticeably deeper and a tad raspier. Synergy Has Low Standards
“Listen to your mother kids, aim low; aim so low no one will even care if you succeed.” – Marge Simpson If there is such a writing style as “corporate fanboy”, IGN has perfected it in their Zombie Simpsons “reviews”. Even by the pitifully low standards of Zombie Simpsons “Bart Gets a Z” is an undeniable mess comprised of unfinished ideas, jokeless dialogue, and random outbursts. I mentioned this briefly in the Crazy Noises conversation, but even individual scenes are so ill defined that it was actually a surprise when they cut to commercial. It was self evidently terrible enough…
Crazy Noises: “Bart Gets a Z”
“You can’t go, you’re the best teacher I’ll ever have.” – Lisa Simpson “Oh that’s not true, other teachers will come along.” – Mr. Bergstrom “Oh please.” – Lisa Simpson “No, I can’t lie to you. Because doing a podcast smacks of effort we’re still using this “chatroom” thing that all the middle schoolers and undercover cops seem to…
Zombie Simpsons Eats More Brains
Image from addletters.com’s Chalkboard Generator. The numbers are in and they’re up slightly from last week. Yesterday’s meandering 22 minutes of mental anguish was watched by 9.31 million unfortunate people. That’s up by a million from last week. Zombie Simpsons did manage to edge The Cleveland Show this week, though as usual it fell short of the original Family Guy. Oh well.
Rambling
“I got you fired, didn’t I?” – Bart Simpson In case you were wondering, the creators of Zombie Simpsons do have the ability to list social networking systems. And there was a Rodney Dangerfield impersonation. And a zany replacement teacher. And a giant globe. And a muffin store. And Homer cried for no reason. And a formulaic sitcom guilt ending. And sorry for starting all my sentences with a conjunction, but watching that 22 minutes of disconnected, painfully boring set pieces destroyed my ability to link thoughts together or use transitions of any kind. About five minutes into The Cleveland…
